Week ten in the garden

It's hard to believe that it's been ten weeks since we started our veggie garden.  The tomatoes are huge.  The Roma tomatoes are not as big as the Classic tomatoes but they are coming along.  There are baby zucchinis which is exciting!  We were hoping to see green beans this week but maybe next week.  We are keeping our paws crossed.  Today we went to Pinecrest with my Grandpa.  We took the canoe and had a great time fishing.  My Mommy says that I am a pro at being out on the water now.  I even stood up on the edge of the canoe today.  There were lots of other puppies around.  It was fun to see them.  My Daddy and my Grandpa both caught their limit.  We came home with a total of 10 trout.  Wow!  We had a great hike while we were there too.  It's was a pawesome day!

Hi friends!  I was not able to blog yesterday because my Mommy and Daddy were out celebrating my Daddy's birthday.  Yes, it's a week early but he was celebrating with friends who will be out of town on my Daddy's actual birthday.  They had a great celebration at Buffalo Bill's.  My Daddy's friend Cleve brought my Daddy a real live stuffed boar head.  Can you believe it?  I am told that there is a real live stuffed buffalo head at Buffalo Bills.  My Daddy thought it was a funny gift.

Fun on a Friday

Look at this stick that Sierra brought home during our walk last night.  Have I told you that my sister LOVES sticks?  We have fun taking the stick away from each other throughout the day.  I play with the stick and then get bored with it.  Sierra then grabs the stick and plays with it.  I take it away from her and start playing with it again.  Then I get bored with it and Sierra takes it.  It's a vicious cycle.  Guess what my Mommy made for dinner?  Salmon, home grown zucchini (from our friend's garden), and brown rice.  The salmon was delicious!  Can I please have some more?

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for my Grandma and Grandpa.  They gave me as a gift to my parents.  My Mommy and Daddy are the best parents in the world and I have my Grandma and Grandpa to thank for that.  They also will give me whatever I want...not things that are bad for me but everything else.  They also love to play with me.  When Mommy and Daddy are going somewhere where Sierra and I aren't allowed to go, we always go to my Grandma and Grandpa's house.  They are the best dogsitters!  Yesterday, when we were walking near their house we saw two Samoyeds.  Too bad we didn't have the camera with us.  Maybe next time.

I wish...

...I was still at the lake.  The weather was so nice and cool all weekend.  It was about 85 degrees here today.  My Mommy didn't turn on the A/C but she finally turned on the fan around 3pm.  Whew!  It's night time and the temperature inside our house is 87 degrees.  Oh how I can't wait to go camping again and be outdoors in the cool weather!

Week nine in the garden

We had a safe drive home.  Sierra and I were very tired from the fun weekend and we slept the entire time.  We came home to a great looking veggie garden.  The tomatoes are getting bigger and bigger.  The bell peppers are growing too!  The squash and zucchini are flourishing beautifully.  I think we will start to see green beans by next week.  The second crop of lettuce are showing signs of life.  All of the herbs are starting to get bigger.  After a nap, dinner, and a walk, Sierra and I had to have a butter bath.  Butter?  I know, weird!  It's the only thing that will get the sap out from our fur.  I try to lick the butter but Mommy and Daddy tell me not to so I do my best to behave.  We are still both very exhausted from our fun weekend away.  Night night friends!

On Sunday, our first hike was to Mills Peak Lookout.  The lookout point was really high and my Mommy didn't even go all the way up to the point because she was a little scared.  My Daddy, Grandpa and I went all the way up and they said they could see Mt. Shasta from there.  After that we hiked the Red Fir Trail and learned a lot about the Red Fir trees.  There was so much to see and much more to smell.  After that we hiked to Hawley Falls.  I didn't actually go all the way to the Falls because it was treacherous and Mommy and Daddy would not allow it.  On our way back from the hike we encountered a fallen tree on a bridge that we had to cross.  I jumped over it and Sierra went underneath it.  We are so different.  After a little trip to the town of Graeagle we headed back to Salmon Lake and went out on the canoe.  This was mine and Sierra's first time being on the water in a canoe.  It was a little scary at first but I calmed down quickly and enjoyed the trip around the lake.  My Grandpa caught another trout and this time Daddy caught a 15 inch Rainbow Trout.  He was SO excited because he has not caught a fish in a long time.

May 22 & 23, 2009

On Friday, we drove a long way to Plumas National Forest.  We found our way to Lakes Basin campgrounds.  As soon as we jumped out of the truck, we found snow!  Can you believe it?  Snow in May!  Sierra and I had a ball rolling around in the snow.  After we set up camp, Daddy, our friend Cleve, his dog, Kahlua, Sierra and I went for a little hike.
On Saturday, we had a great hike to Long Lake.  There weren't very many fish biting there but the scenery was beautiful!  I kept busy going back and forth between my Daddy, my Grandpa, and our friend Cleve.  I even took a nap on a cool rock right near the lake.  Sierra found great sticks to play with at camp.  After resting for a few hours we headed to Salmon Lake to fish for more trout.  My Grandpa and Cleve caught a few trout.  The humans enjoyed the fresh trout for dinner that night.

Fun on a Friday

This morning we all got up really early...earlier than we usually do.  Daddy asked me to help him while he packed  Mommy's truck.  Does this mean we are going somewhere?  I have a feeling that we are going far.  Wanna know why I think this?  Look at all the water we are taking.  11 gallons is a lot!   Yayyyyyy!  I wonder where this road trip will take us?  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for this drawer.  It is my favorite drawer in the house.  It contains MANY delicious treats.  My Greenies are in there and so are my Newman's Own Organic treats.  I know the sound of this drawer when it opens.  When this happens, I can be found running from where I was into the kitchen.  I have a great fondness for this drawer...I sit near it after dinner every night and wait for my Greenie.

Guess what came...

...in the mail for me today?  Sammy Snacks!  We won them on Gypsy's auction.  We got one bag of carob and one bag of peanut butter treats.  I am not used to having crunchy treats like that but they sure are tasty.  My Mommy and Daddy thought they were tasty too.  Sierra LOVES them...there isn't a lot that she doesn't love.

Cool on a Monday

We had well over 100 degree weather throughout the weekend.  It finally started to cool down this afternoon but it is still very hot in our house.  Daddy was smart and put the fan outside to bring in some of the coolness into our house.  I put myself right in front of the fan to enjoy the cool weather.  Daddy brought home lots of boxes for Mommy...a lot of food staples that we need every month.  The oats are mostly for me but Mommy does make oatmeal cookies and granola bars with them.  Look at my Greenies.  Mommy bought the large kind because they were on sale (I usually get the regular size).  Do they look too big for my mouth?

P.S.  Hana, the fence around our garden is mostly for Sierra, cats, and other critters that may potentially get into our veggies.

Week eight in the garden

I can't believe it's been eight weeks since we started our veggie garden.  Everyone is doing great!  The zucchini leaves are growing fast!  We got our first baby bell pepper...they will soon be turning red or yellow.  The beef steak and roma tomatoes are growing too.  The green bean vine has found its way to the lattice.  Isn't that amazing!  I am sad to report that there aren't any new strawberries.  I hope that those pesky birds didn't ruin our entire crop.
